TONY CHRISTIE RARITIES

Tony Christie was a favourite of mine in the early 70's. An old-style crooner with a powerful voice, and an ability to give the music a modern (70's) contemporary feel. He had a similar style to Tom Jones, and should've been as big a star, but was not to be. Christie is best remembered for his biggest hits, including (Is this the way to) Amarillo, I Did What I Did For Maria, Las Vegas, and my personal favourite Avenues & Alleyways. Here's a selection from my archive of his lesser known classics that never seem to make it onto CD...

MY LOVE SONG

Recorded by Tony Christie in 1972, lyrics by Peter Callander & Mitch Murray

DADDY DON'T YOU WALK SO FAST

Recorded by Tony Christie in 1971, lyrics by Peter Callander & Geoff Stevens. Was originally a big hit for Daniel Boone, but this version beats it hands down!

LOVE AND RAINY WEATHER

I bought this as a 7" single when it first came out. Recorded by Tony Christie in 1973, lyrics by Peter Callander & Mitch Murray. This track appeared as the theme song for "The Lovers" movie (based on the early 70's TV series starring Richard Beckinsale & Paula Wilcox)

WHAT DO YOU DO

Recorded by Tony Christie in 1972. I haven't been able to confirm any further details about this song. Many of Christie's songs were written by either Neil Sedaka or Mitch Murray / Peter Callander, so it could possibly be one of theirs

STAINED GLASS BLUE

Recorded by Tony Christie in 1974, lyrics by Joel Diamond

GOD BLESS JOANNA

Recorded by Tony Christie in 1972, lyrics by Neil Sedaka
